Weird Background Painting: Self-Portrait

This week's episode of The Rough Pearl shows Adam waking up with a nasty hangover in his bedroom. There's a weird painting in the background, just over a dresser, which is based on a digital image called "Self Portrait" that I made back in 2000. It's a combination of a rendered image of a head with a photograph of my own face - like so:

  1. I'm curious as to how you achieved the facial effects. They are wonderful! Did Photoshop have a Liquefy filter in 2000? If you have time, I'd love to know. The overall impression is quite stunning. An especially nice touch is the stark realism of the eyes.♥

  2. Thanks Denice! The image is a combination of a rendered head and torso done using a consumer 3D software called "Poser" and a photograph (of me - which is why the eyes look so real). The rendered image was created by forcing Poser's parameters for one of its standard figures to higher and higher values until the underlying math stopped making "sense" and the image more or less exploded!
